Czech car-maker Skoda shall possibly start commercially shipping cars produced in India to world-wide markets in the time to come, beginning with the Rapid sedan scheduled to be released on November 16th. A division of auto corporation Volkswagen, the company’s totally possessed subsidiary Skoda Auto India looks at the Rapid to be its best-selling car in the country, exceeding the numbers generated by the compact car Fabia. Skoda Auto India Marketing Head Tarun Jha said that this car was particularly designed for the Indian roads and the set up will be a global one for the car. Later, it may even be introduced in various markets throughout the world. The company is gambling all its cards on this model, he added.  Presently, the company doesn’t transfer abroad any of its models from India. This may prove out to be a record-breaker for Skoda, could prove out to be the best-selling car for them. For now, Fabia stands its ground as the best-selling car. It deals about 1,200-1,500 Fabia units every month. The company is also keen on expanding its dealership network in the Tier-II and III cities to meet the desired demands of the Rapid. In the beginning of this month, Skoda had declared that they will start the production of Rapid at the VW Group’s Chakan plant near Pune. A capital of 580 million euros has been made on the plant, with yearly production capability of 1.1 lakh units |
